Casters
Very popular in Summer and Autumn when fishing for Roach - Chub - Bream and Rudd .
The chrysalis stage of a fly, however casters are best obtained at the very earliest change from maggot to chrysalis We need to obtain and preserve them at this stage in order to have a good caster.
Casters must sink and any further development will turn them into floaters. Once obtained we can prolong their usefulness by covering them with water, or seal them in an airtight bag, this curtails
their development. If you intend to keep them for a few days, it is best to put them in a fridge if possible.
A good caster will enable us to bury a 16 hook.
It should be crisp and have a nice red shell.
Worm and Caster work well together when Bream Fishing
Rudd often feed on the surface and you will need to leave some of your casters to darken until they float on the surface of the water. Summer evenings can produce quality fish.
Bite recognition is usually quick and positive, so be ready or all you will have on the hook is a caster shell.
