Maggots
The classic bait for catching all
species
Make sure your maggots are fresh - a fresh maggot will have a dark band near its pointed end - this is the food that is still in its system and makes for a nice soft and active maggot.
Old maggots do not have this dark band and are tougher skinned and generally less active.
Pops Tip:
Old maggots sink faster and can be used to good effect as feeders.
Hooking your Maggot
Examine the maggot and you will see that its body is thicker at the rear. There you will see 2 dark spots. Pinch it gently in this area and a small bit of skin will stick out.
Pass the hook between the two spots and through this flap of skin.
You will then have attached your bait causing very little damage and without
loss of fluids, it will last longer and improve your chances.
