Barbel
Barbus barbus
Slim and very powerful muscular body.
Wedge shaped head with a barbel at each side of its rounded nose.
Thick lips with a barbel at each corner of its drooping mouth.-- (2 at the front and 2 at the back)
Large fins well rounded except for the Dorsal fin, where the back edge is concave, a bit like the top edge of the tail fin.
Average weight 1.lb(.45 kg)to 2 lbs.(.90 kg)
Specimen fish 5.lbs(2.25 kg)and over.

Habitat
They are bottom feeders and feed in the silt and weed beds of strong flowing rivers, especially those with clean running water over gravel or stony bottoms.
Natural baits include, minnows - fry - crayfish - small frogs and snails.
Early summer ( not so good in winter ) mornings and late evening is the best time for catching them.
During the day they can sometimes be tempted using small baits.
