Details

A strong muscular fish of the carp family.
Solid streamlined body with a large rounded head and thick lips,they also have big fins with concave back edges.
Average weight 1.1/2 lbs.(680 gm).
Specimen fish 3.lbs.(1.4 kg)and over.

Colouring

Back = Green/Brown

Flanks = Silver

Underside = Off White

Fins = Clear/Red

Habitat

Can be found in still waters but mainly in lowland and middle reaches of rivers, especially those with clean running water over gravel or stony bottoms.
While it is young they tend to swim with roach and other fish and can be found most typical swims.
As they mature they are found in the deeper pools along the river margins especially where there is cover, under willows etc.
This is their home where you will find them in packs of 4 or 5, these tend to be bigger fish of 3 to 5 lbs..
Natural foods abound for the Chub anything that comes by is regarded as a possible meal.They feed on the bottom except in summer when the temperature is high.
Small Chub feed on - insects - fish eggs - molluscs - plant life.
Large Chub feed on - small fish - flies - crayfish - swan mussels - small frogs - fruit and berries.
