A handsome fish of the carp family, and is one of the most prolific breeds in U.K. waters, much sought after by match anglers
The overall size and shape tends to vary according to their specific habitat,for instance if they are short of food or reside in an over populated stretch of water, they will be much slimmer and in some cases appear stunted when compared to the full bodied variety found in waters with a good supply of food.
The mouth is terminal, neither upturned or down turned.

Colouring

Back = Dark Brown

Flanks = Silver

Underside = Pearl

Fins = Translucent Orange/Red

The eyes are red which helps to identify them. In contrast the Rudd has yellow/orange eyes.

Habitat

Found in most rivers,lakes,canals, ponds etc.
Usually bottom or near bottom feeders although they do rise to take insects in summer.
The average fish weighs about 6 oz.however fish up to 3lb can be expected from the most nutritious waters.
