Details

A handsome fish, it has a flat sided body and looks similar to a Roach, however the colouring is brighter, the eyes are yellow and its dorsal fin is set further back, notice the keel behind the ventral fins.
The Rudd's mouth is small and curves obliquely upwards.
A good fighting fish.
Average weight about 6 oz(170 gm)
Specimen fish 2 lbs(907 gm)

Back = Olive

Flanks = Silver/Bronze

Underside =Silver/White

Fins = Orange/Red

Habitat

Found in lakes,ponds,gravel pits and quiet stretches of rivers. A surface feeder usually found in small shoals of about a dozen fish,they tend to keep close to water plants or have set runs under overhanging trees. Natural foods are plankton,insects and aquatic plants.

Pops Tip:

Keep working the bait (not bread) by gently pulling back
this raises the bait, now allow the bait to fall gently,
pause for a moment when it has settled then repeat.
The amount of rise and fall and the length of pause
is infinitely variable.
