Similar to the common bream but smaller, its sides are more rounded and its colouring is lighter. There are several other differences like fewer scales on its lateral line and less rays in its dorsal fin.
The easiest way to identify a Silver Bream (often referred to as Skimmers) is by the reddish tint of their fins. Slow growers it takes ten years for them to reach lengths in excess of seven inches (18cm.)
Average weight - Up to 1lb 2ozs.(.5kg).
Specimen fish - 2.lbs(2.76 kg)and over.

Back = Grey

Flanks = Silver

Underside = Pink/White

Fins = Reddish

Habitat

Bream prefer slower deeper waters with lots of vegetation, however they can be found in almost any lake,river and canal etc.
They patrol the waters in large shoals, their routine is often predictable visiting various spots in an unchanging sequence every year.
Normally bottom feeders, usually well away from the bank, there they will feed greedily, often stirring up the bottom releasing gases and small particles which can be observed on the surface of the water.
Natural foods are Zoo plankton and bethnic fauna, found in the soft mud.
