Details

Powerfully built and very wary,it has a very long dorsal fin and the whole of the body is covered with heavy scales, the lateral line runs the complete length of the body which is long and rounded, it also has four barbules on its mouth.
They grow very quickly in the first year, and more slowly in subsequent years.
Average weight 7 lb(3.2 kg)
Specimen fish 16 lb(7.25 kg)

Back = Brown/Green

Flanks = Olive Gold mix

Underside = Cream/Yellow

Fins = Dull Red/Grey Dorsal

Habitat

Slow moving rivers,their backwaters and pools.
Here they feed on Crustaceans, molluscs, insects and worms found in the muddy bottoms.
They feed from dusk to dawn in spring and summer and much less in autumn and winter when they retire to the deeper parts and eat very little.
