Zander
Stizostedion lucioperca
Details
A powerful fish and largest of the perch family, the body is long and muscular and resembles that of the pike, the exceptions are its fins which are those of a perch, hence it is sometimes known as the Pike-Perch.
Introduced into the Great Ouse Relief Channel in 1963,here they multiplied and grew very quickly, and much concern was voiced by anglers who feared the Zander would play havoc with the fish stocks.
This monster toys with its victims before killing them and often leaves the evidence because it was not hungry in the first place.
Beware of its long and very sharp teeth, do not remove hooks with your fingers.
