Rod Rests
Yet another area that has changed to make life easier for us, gone are the days of the simple V shape to rest your rod on but they still do the job.
Now we have an ever increasing range to pick from, special rests for most styles of fishing.

A fundamental piece of equipment, anything will do seems to be the norm but its better to choose carefully bearing in mind the type of fishing you will be doing and the sort of venues you will be fishing at.
A simple aluminium stake is the most common, avoid thin ones, get 2 or 3 different lengths, avoid cheap adjustable ones - sooner or later you will get snagged on the screw, or it will collapse and put your tackle in the water.
If you think you need an adjustable one get a good one, just look around in a decent tackle shop the good quality ones stand out from the rest.
