Sheffield
Harthill Reservoir
Take the A618 from Sheffield towards Rotherham, after passing
Mount Farm keep going for about 2 miles then turn left down
Woodall Lane towards Harthill take the 3rd turning on the right
down Carver Close, here you will find ample parking at he side of
the first reservoir.
Harthill Reservoir is located in South Yorkshire and was
built as a header reservoir for the Chesterfield Canal. It has a
total acreage of around 37.5 contained in 3 main bodies of
water.
The top (3rd) pond is around 5.5 acres and is tree lined down
one side, with patches of reeds and weed beds. It is fairly
shallow, being 5.5ft at it's deepest. The carp mainly patrol the
margins, grubbing under the overhanging trees. This represents a
fantastic stalking opportunity and with fewer dog walkers and
anglers it is a very tranquil place to wet a line.
The 1st and 2nd ponds are joined by a cut through under the
bridge with the 2nd being smaller than the 1st. The dominat
feature of the 2nd is a large reed bed on the Western bank. The
carp gather here in great numbers duing the summer months,
basking tight against the stems. Many of the tench and bream come
from this lake to maggot feeder tactics.
The 1st lake is the largest at around 25 acres. It has a
mature wood on the Western bank. This is probably the most
picturesque area to fish if you can handle the walk, fishing
alongside listed trees that may be hundreds of years old. The
Northern bank is the dam wall where the pike anglers take up
residence in the winter months.
Here is the deepest area – 22ft at the foot of the dam
(depending on water level as this varies slightly as it is a
working reservoir). Many large pike have graced the bank
here.
There are no day tickets - fishing is on a syndicate basis
only. Day/night syndicate is £100, day only syndicate is
only £30.
Tickets run from one year from date of purchase.
